In the 2016/17 season, the Hungarian National Ballet launched a preparatory course in classical ballet, accepting applications from children aged 4 through 13. Even in the first round of admissions, the number of applicants exceeded expectations.
The aim of the training programme is to allow young dancers to practice under professional conditions, to take part in the Opera's performances and, above all, to fall in love with dance. As early as last year they were already getting the chance to take the stage in productions of Le Corsaire, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. The course gives the youngest dancers a unique opportunity to perform in front of audiences of 1800 viewers, to enjoy the taste of success and to understand the need for persistent practice.
The institute's instructors comprise Tünde Antal, Roland Csonka, Evelyn Janács, assistant Katalin Kőszegi, Kornélia Mráz, Radina Dace, Katerina Tarasova (all former and current dances of the Hungarian National Ballet), as well as Éva Csere, Zsuzsanna Thuróczy Fajt, Eszter Kiss, Ágnes Sárközy Holler and assistant Adrienn Vetési.
